The road to effective human-tech integration
Last week, the TechConnect team held a focused working session to align on the development of one of the project’s key outcomes: the Human-Tech Skill Complementarity Index. The Index aims to become a practical and evidence-based tool to assess how well emerging digital technologies complement human skills in real workplace settings.
The meeting brought together academic, technical, and policy-facing partners to establish a shared understanding of the Index’s purpose, the stakeholders it will serve, and the type of data it will draw upon. We discussed how the Index can integrate with ongoing ethnographic observations and interviews from across our case studies, ensuring that it captures the complexity and nuance of human-tech interactions.

The group began to define what the Index should measure, how it can be applied across different sectors, and how we will validate its effectiveness. This collaborative process will ensure the Index is not only theoretically robust but also practical, adaptable, and relevant to policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders alike.
As we continue to refine this tool, we remain committed to bridging the gap between technology’s potential and its real-world implementation, supporting a more inclusive, skill-ready digital transformation across Europe.
